St Patrick’s Day

The Irish Association of Korea’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival

On March 17 the world dresses in green and celebrates a unique cultural event, Saint Patrick’s Day. This day is Ireland’s day, and a way for people from around the world to come together in a unique celebration of culture and community.

The IAK organsied festival in Seoul features daytime and evening music and dance events, and a very popular street parade in a central location. The 2011 festival attracted over 10,000 participants while the 2012 festival brought thousands of people, many for the first time to D-Cube in Sindorim. Many of our previous festivals have featured renowned traditional musicians and dancers flown to Korea from Ireland specifically for this event. These performers play at many of the events during the festival. For information on the 2014 Festival, pleae click HERE.

The festival has featured in both international and domestic media outlets including the Dong-a Ilbo, Hankook Ilbo, The Hankyoreh and the Kyunghyang Shinmun. In the English language media, it has featured in The Korea Herald, The Korea Times, the Chosun Ilbo and the JoongAng Ilbo, as well as wide coverage in English language magazines.

The IAK has developed strong relationships with local government and business leaders. In the past we have worked with the management of Namsan Tower to illuminate the tower with green lights for Saint Patrick’s Day, thus tying in with other famous global city landmarks that ‘go green’ on that day, such as the Empire State Building in New York and the Sydney Opera House.
