Seoul Céilí: Irish Music and Dance Festival September 8, 2013
Get your dancing shoes warmed up as you are being served with advanced notice, the Irish Association of Korea’s 2013 Seoul Céilí: Irish Music and Dance Festival has been scheduled for September 8. 
Once again, we have the very generous support of Daesung to thank for the use of their excellent facilities at the D-Cube Center in Sindorim Seoul.

Only a few days to the St Patrick’s Day festival
It’s less than 5 days to the annual St Patrick’s Day Festival on Saturday March 16th, which will take place at the D-Cube plaza in Sindorim. 
Don’t forget there’s a fancy dress competition with cash prizes. We’ve got a great raffle courtesy of our sponsors Etihad and Sheraton Seoul D Cube City Hotel (more info about this later today). Can you play music? Then bring your instrument along and join in the music session in the Irish Village. You can even learn some simple Irish dances. If you’re the sporting type then you need to meet the Seoul Gaels who’ll be doing some skills demonstrations. It promises to be a great day with music, dancing, food, activities for kids and much better weather than in Ireland!
And it’s not over at 5pm. We’re having a hooley in The Bull & Barrel in Itaewon with 4 bands downstairs and possibly the biggest Irish traditional music session ever in Korea upstairs. Read about what we have planned here (or over here on Facebook).
St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Chuncheon!
St Patrick’s day is not just for those who happen to be in Seoul on Sat March 16th. For the past number of years Linda Gormally has arranged a Patrick’s Day event in Chuncheon. It started out small (there was only one other Irish person living in Chuncheon when Linda moved there) but has gotten steadily bigger. 
Last year it involved Irish food, listening and dancing to music and even complete beginners learning to play the tinwhistle! This year the party will take place at Lounge Pub T7 (with festivities continuing on at the One Luv Club in Kangdae Humoon later on that night) on Friday March 15th. For updates look at the FB event page (we’ll also post updates as we get them)
So if you know anyone in the Chuncheon area then let them know about this, and if you should meet Linda make sure to congratulate her for getting this off the ground!
Less than 3 weeks to St Patrick’s Day festival!
It’s just less than 3 weeks to the annual St Patrick’s Day festival on Saturday March 16th, which will take place at the D-Cube plaza in Sindorim. 
Are you going to wear a fancy dress for the costume competition? Would you like to win return flights from Seoul to Dublin? Have you heard about the new area we will have called Irish Village? Are you going to come and dance and enjoy the music? Do you want to try your hand at playing some Irish musical instruments? Will you come to the evening party in The Bull & Barrel in Itaewon? We have the schedule for next Saturday’s free St Patrick’s Festival. There should be lots for everyone to enjoy:

13:00-13:20 Introductory speeches by Irish Ambassador, Dr. Eamonn McKee and IAK chair Conor O’Reilly
13:20-13:50 Banu (traditional Irish group)
13:50-14:20 Step dancers + audience dancing (spot prize for best dancer)
14:20-15:00 Have No Name (Korean U2 tribute band)
15:00-15:30 Bard (Korean traditional Irish band)
15:30-15:45 Step dancers + audience dancing
15:45-16:00 Bard (Korean traditional Irish band)
16:00-16:30 Audience dancing (spot prize for best dancer)
16:30-16:45 Banu (traditional Irish group)
16:45-17:20 Dara Sheehan (Irish contemporary)
17:20-18:00 Sweet Murphy’s Fancy (contemporary rock band)

All performance times and performers may change at the organisers discretion.
The evening hooley at the Rocky Mountain Tavern will have 2 floors of music, on the smoke free first floor level we will have performances by Dara Sheehan and Irish traditional group Irish Tea. Things are going to be a bit noisier on the second floor with Have No Name, The Drunk Democracy and Sweet Murphy’s Fancy all playing. Don’t forget the 6 nations rugby match (Ireland v England) will be shown at 02:00 am (internet feed). Tickets for the evening event will be available at the door (price 10,000 krw, drinks promotions on the evening).
St Patrick’s Day – did you know?
Here at IAK towers we are finalising details for the annual St Patrick’s Day festival in Seoul. This year will be the 12th occasion of the festival in Seoul, a fact which we are all proud of. Full details to come in the next few days, just keep Sat March 17th day and evening free in your diary.

Longstanding IAK member Sean Conneely is running a night of céilé and set dancing on Sat Jan 28th in the Columban centre in Seongbuk-gu. The atmosphere is welcoming, you don’t need to know anything about Irish dancing (or even about dancing fullstop), just bring a bit of enthusiasm.
